Generation Beauty 2014 Post Event

Disclaimer:  Views expressed on this post are my own and of my comrades who went with me and DO NOT express the views of GenBeauty and/or Ipsy.
Blogreaties you can guess that this post may not necessarily be a stellar review on the event.  :(  I know you want to see the Haul but that will be in the next post (which i assure you is GOOD)

The words I will put out on the event would be,  Disorganized, Hot, Exhausting, and Confusing.

DISORGANIZED: We arrived to LA Live at  7:45 am, streched out legs and picked up some grub at the nearby starbucks.  According to the website, registartation was to start at 9am.  Um No that didn't happen.  There were no signs on where to go,  LA Live security placed around the building who didn't even know what event we were talking about.  I just kept thinking "Just keep smiling, just keep smiling."  I know that there was pre-registration the night before so we did see women with the pink placards around their neck.  I knew we were in the right place. We followed them into a parking structure and saw them check-in with a security guy with a clip board.  I asked him if this is the Generation Beauty event and where do we check in. "I dunno," he said. [Tip: "Just keep smiling, just keep smiling." You can catch more fly with honey than vinegar,  be polite when asking questions] This was the enterance and it started the game of "What time is check in?" 9am?  10? 10:30?  Who really knows.  But we knew FORM THE LINE!

HOT:   The event was located on top of the parking structure.  We were allowed to walk up there after a hap hazzard registration process while standing in line in a parking lot.  We should have just stayed in the parking structure.  But hey I was excited.  We run up the stairs and was greeted with music and white light.  That light was the sun and we were in LA on pavement HOT HOT HOT. [Tip:  Bring some sort of sun cover and wear sunscreen!] It was still going to be another hour before they open the doors.  All of the covers were for the people standing in line to check in.  But since they did that downstairs everybody was standing in the open sun waiting for the doors to open.

EXHAUSTING:  Standing in lines Line lines lines!  Who is more exhausted? my *bleeping* cell phone.  Hashtag this, post that, take a selfie with this product,  all of this for a chance to win a free product? My battery was yellow by mid day.  [Tip: Bring a Portable Charger for your cell] It was funny, the first day you can see all the girls wear their high heels and look tall and glamourous.  Day two those same girls FLATS all the way. [Tip:  Wear comfortable shoes, you will be standing A LOT] There were not many places to sit or hang out inside.  Every seat was an oasis and not to mention designed for photos ops galore.  So you couldn't sit there long because other people wanted to take pictures in the seats.
CONFUSING:  I kept calling it a Beauty Conference.  Conferences are suppose to be for networking , meet people in person that are in the same line of interests in hopes to make connections around the country.  Well these "seminars" were a joke.  None of the presenters were prepared. Scheduled topics turned into Q&A session SNORE!!!  People we know more about these people because we watch them everyday on YouTube!  I already know what inspires them or what their favorite makeup product is.  I pretty mush spent money to technically watch my youtube channels live!  :(  Well you would assume that the brands would have MAD sales and discounts.  NOPE!  what?!?  you're not selling products. Really the only brand that was selling products was crown brush.  That has an interesting story that I can have at the very end after this.

IPSY IF YOU ARE READING THIS - TAKE NOTES!  Final Thoughts:  Ipsy you will need to get your *bleep* straight.  If you want to inspire your attendees and build up the YouTube Beauty Universe,  I suggest to go old SChool.  Take away the cell phones  make the attendees see real people and force us to talk to each other.  We spend our time glued to the screens watching youtube,  I personally didn't want to go to LA to be glued to another screen (my Cell) to network.  Have smaller tents around the main one to separate vendors and seminars.  Music was playing in the big tent during these seminars.  The poor gurus couldn't hear us and we were sure crowded enough to strain to hear them.  Have More coverage for your attendees,  bigger eating areas with shade.  Have a charging station for our cell phones.  Can we charge our phones while we are watching youtube videos from the guest Beauty gurus?  I made a goal to atleast meet the gurus that I watch daily and I did that.  Thanks to GenBeauty it did make me think.  It sadly made me rethink if I really want to get in this business.  But rest assured the ones I was actually able to meet and take pics with were everything I hope they would be.  THANK GAWD.  These very appreciative thank you's go to Promise Phan (dope2111) Judy and Benjmin Travis (ItsJudyTime & BenjiManTV)  I will definitely keep following.

I am sorry Michelle Phan but thanks to GenBeauty it made us think of you differently.  Really?  This is your thing,  you are the front face of ipsy and you didn't prepare anything?  We have known about this for a year and you couldn't have your team prepare something to keep the facade?  Boo to you Michelle Phan.
Boo to the Food Trucks! We went to this truck that I guess was a asian/indian/mexican cuisine  (bad food choices ipsy)  everything was way to heavy and hot to scarf down in heat and be expected to feel beauty after it?   I ordered a simple teriyaki chicken and rice. 8 bucks

Eww M-R-E's are more appetizing than this.  Check out the liquid piling up in the back!  GROSS  The Chicken was boiled more than the rice.

Boo to the planners of the schedules and planners of the perks.  You know that ItsJudyTime is uber popular by having FOUR channels on youtube.  Did you really need to schedule her meet and greet a half hour before the Free Swag Give outs?  I assume you made everyone including Judy feel bad by not having enough time.  And the Perks,  a poor model who was working all day was denied her goody bag because she was a worker even though she legitimately had a ticket to get one.  Ipsy I would pay more If I knew there were different stages of perks.  Maybe 40 bucks more on the ticket would get me full size products, access to front of the lines and free makeover.  Just a thought.

Would I go again?  Maybe.  I would definitely go to IMATS over GenBeauty.  Atleast IMATs I could buy what i wanted at the end of their lines.  Is the free stuff worth it?  YES!  My friend Annette was happy.  Stay tuned for the next Generation Beauty 2014 post because it's all about the HAUL!

Newest Trend: Origami Owl Custom Jewelry

Hey have your heard of Origami Owl?  No believe me it's nothing to do with folding paper.  Origami Owl is a custom designer jewelry line that will
This was the dream of founder Isabella Weems,  in 2010 at the young age of 14, started this as a way to save for a car.  Now at 18, origami owl has become big, worth over 250 million dollars (Forbes.com).  I know, jewelry,  how can jewelry from a teenager be worth 250 million?  All I can say is "CUTE!!"

Origami Owl's is set apart from the others by their "Living Locket" a locket that holds personalized charms that can be customized to fit any one's preference.   These lockets can be attached to necklaces and bracelets.  I have become obsessed with the charms that can't be copied. (Believe me I have tried)

Contact my gal Collette, (Click Here)  She just recently has been bit by the Origami Owl and is now an independent representative for Origami Owl.  Collette is the most stylish person in the building I work in. So I have become a follower of her customized arrangements.

These are the latest accessory for everyone in your life.  Also this is the perfect time to think of your own combinations for that special someone due to all the occasions that are coming up.
Reminder:
Mothers Day USA (May 11th)
Father's Day USA (June 15th)
Graduation (June)
I think origami owl is reasonably price compared to pandora charms or those italian charm bracelets.  I tried to find knockoffs but nothing even compares to what Origami Owl offers. I just put in my order for a bracelet.  I hope you blogreaties can check it out!

Back From IMATS LA

Holy freakin "A" is all I can say about my experience at IMATS!  It was awesome!!!  No regrets whatsoever. I am so glad that I came prepared.

It was so hard to go to sleep the night before.  I had to go to dinner with the inlaws.  As you can see I put HAD TO which at this point was so pointless to be there I could have been catching up on sleep. If I knew that I was going to be up for almost 24 hours straight the next day I would have convince my husband to stay home,

I did wake up at 1:45 in the morning to prepare my day.  It was 15 minutes before the alarm went off.  But I wasn't going to go back to sleep.  Maria and Annette picked me up at 3:30 and we were off to IMATS.  We arrived there t 5:45am and drove past the venue to see if there was a line.  At that time there wasn't.  So we ended up getting something to eat at the nearby IHOPS.  More people started trickling in and we can tell that they were all here for IMATS.  Only by the amount of makeup they had on and the fact that they were dressed to the "nines".  Once we saw that we though we would make out way to the convention center.

Boy were we right.  It was before 6:30am when we back to the convention center and a line had already formed.  The line was already around the bhjkuinboYg.  ( Damn I though we bnbmnb were early too)  But everybody was in great spirits and we allso created a bit of camaraderie against the woman line usher who actually thought that we would stand for two hours in a single file line. (oh you should have heard our sarcastic comments then)
While waiting in line it felt like I was waiting for a roller coaster.  But thinking back now the whole experience was a roller coaster.  We were so jazzed when the line started moving.  The IMATS front counter took the whole line that was separeted between regualar and pro.  Honestly initially beween a pro not pro didn't really make that musch of a difference.  There was only one pro card carrying lady waiting with us and for the day I noticed that she was only little  ahead of the line at booths compared to the non pros.

Dont worry i did behave really the ones that rubbed/me the wrong way were some of the vendors.  My top 3 "F" You's go to the Nigel's Beauty Emporium, Face Atelier and Ardell Lashes.  Their attitude were too high and mighty for being glorified warehouse workers.  If you weren't a pro or you made them move or think you got their bitch face along with attitude.
Nigel's Beauty Emporium is online for a reason besides the great selection of both drugstore and high end brands i surpassed the cheapy grab and go dollar item table and came with a list of high end professional makeup that I was told was going to be at discount.  the intial counter man was very nice very lost but nice.  My list seemed to intimate him (not my fault) but the next series of event lead me to the conclusion that these mother F - ers were dumbasses..  My big order remained behind the register untouched for five customers ahead of me forcing me to say "Excuse me, can you ring up my order"  Imagine the rolling of the eyes from at least 3 people behind the counter.
My friend Annette was happy to find that chinese glaze had a sale of 8 bottles for 20 dollars at the Ardell table.  Once again rolling of the eyes when she asked for boxes.  Shit do your job.
Face atelier all I can say to them is "Bitch do your research"  I did and Ineeded an answer.  Face Atelier and Makeup Atelier is there a difference?  The chick at the counter had no idea what I was talking about.  Yes I know whatyou are thinking  "I have never heard of it either?"    Blogreaties look up Wayne Goss on YouTube.  He swears by that brand.  I have a sample a sample of their waterproof gel foundation and that stuffis awesome.  I will post on that later .  But Makeup Atelier is a very high end brand makeup that is sold in France.  So I would assume someone working in a company called Face atelier would have atleast heard of Face Atelier.

Planning was a must!  My friends and I scattered as soon as we hit the room.  Good thing we did I stopped at all the table to buy the items on my list.  I was done within the first half hour.  After that I strolled around looking for my friends and anything that sprked my interest.  I did see some cool things but sadly the pushing sales pitch of some vendors wasa major turn off from a sale by me.
I talked about the bad but lets end with the good.  There were some great table though.  Chella,  a small online brand that I was introduced by my ipsy bag.  The line for anastasia was so long it ran right in front of Chella.  Chella specializes in brows too.  But I think I think their stuff because their products are simple and straight to the point.  That I dont necessarily need a whole kit for my brows.  They were very nice.

I met people there I got to take a pic with famous special effects makeup artist Frank Ippolito.  He was a contestant on SyFy's Face Off.  Finally after this one moment I was done with IMATS my mission was done.  I got to run into my #1 Beauty Guru.  Emily Eddington,  also known as EmilyNoel83/Beauty Broadcast.  Thank gawd she brought her husband because I wouldn't have seen her.  He's 6',6" and stuck out like a sore thumb!  Man did I act like such a fan girl "Oh my gosh I love you.  I watch all your videos!"

So I dunno if I will go year after year I loved going and I loved shopping but with my online skills and small pocket book I think I could stay home.  But If I was a little more professioinal and If this turns out to be something I will go back as a makeup professional.  Stay tuned for my haul.

IMATS 2014 Final Pre-Event Update

Two more days to go.  I am waking up 2 in the mornig to get ready to be picked up at 3:30 for us to drive to Pasadena to wait in line for doors to open up at 8:30am.

I downloaded the IMATS 2014 app on my android and put all my notes there and marked all of the tables that I need to stop by.  It has a cool feature where it can tell you deals going on around you once you set your current location at IMATS. Of course the app is also available on the IPhone.

My purse is packed with the appropriates.  I am still debating whether I should actually pack a small makeup bag to do my face in the car on the way up there or just touch up products.  I think it all depends on how I feel when I wake up.  Personally it will probably be best to just bring my touch up products, because my bag will already have alot of other things.
  • Network Business Cards  - I am completely new to this business. Yet I want to broaden my circle of makeup enthusiasts.  I designed a simple business card with my name and social media names, so companies and other people in the industry can look me up.
  • Solar Charger - I know  it may be a bit much, but with the IMATS app, taking pics and the uploading to facebook, instagram,  and blog, not to mention the regular cell phone functions (texting & phone calls) it will zap my battery dry.  I would recommend this to anyone constantly on the go.  This charger can be charged by a usb adapter for future use and or charged by the sun.  I got mine from Amazon.
  • Makeup wipes
  • Cell phone
  • Wallet
  • Snack Bars
  • Water bottle
  • camera
  • Touch up makeup -  I always tend to over pack but I kick myself if I need something and I don't have it.   So my touch up products list will vary.  I hoping for just lipstick, blotting sheets and my clinique compact.

My wish list
I am going through every vendor to check out what each offer.  Check places like instagram and Facebook because some vendors have posted their discounts or their discounts may only be applied if you are friends on facebook or follow on instagram.  Like and be friends with your favorite brands NOW!   If you read my first post on IMATS my reasoning is to get products that I can't readily get online, get products that offer a real good discount.  ( I am talking BIG discount at least 40+% off) and get products that my computer monitor can't quite get a accurate color on, like foundation.

- Zuca has a 50% off sale on their artist backpack.
- Becca Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundation ( noisette and/ or tan)
- Kevyn Aucoin 40% off their products ( I want to pick up more sensual skin foundation)
- Color Palette. -  Any brand (But at an outrageous price)   The color palette I am looking for contains the basic primary colors in a cream consistency that should be very versatile to use as makeup or mix with other products to change the color.
- Velore Lashes -  These lashes supposedly can last six months and are made of mink making it very soft and natural.
- General Supplies - Spatulas, mixing palettes etc.

Surprisingly not bad if I should say so myself.  Yet either way I am still dropping some mad cash more than the average consumer for makeup products.  I doubt I will see any drug store brands here.

Blogreaties,  come up to me to say hello!  I am very shy but will definitely come out of my shell for makeup!  So If you don't quite reconize me just shout out "AngelPacific!"  and i will respond!  But wish myself , Annette and Maria luck!  We are going to be tired but I will make sure to be dedicated to post my day and products sunday or monday!

ItsJudyTime Palette

It came!  It came!  It finally came!   I am talking about BH Cosmetics “Its Judy Time” Palette.  I felt like a stalker and kept checking the website when the palette was going to be available.  If you have no idea what I am talking about, keep reading.
tsJudyTime is a beauty channel on YouTube, created and starring Judy Travis. http://youtube.com/itsjudytime She is another one of my Beauty Gurus that I like to zone out to daily.   She also has a vlog channel called “ItsJudysLife” that she shares her daily life with her husband Benji and 1 yr. old Baby Julianna.   There’s more!  She is currently pregnant with twins and with that she started another channel called “ItsMommysLife”  I don’t watch the mommy one because I am nowhere close to being a mommy, but the other channels I watch daily, even my husband listens in.

DEFINITION - Vlog: a blog in which the postings are primarily in video form.

So with all that she has,  she still finds the time to join BH Cosmetics and create this palette. BH Cosmetics partnered with not only “ItsJudyTime” but also “ThatsHeart” and had them create their signature looks with customized palettes.

The majority of the colors are warm browns which is my favorite, yet offers 3 cool colors of purples and blues that is also it's only pop of color.

provided by itsjudytime.blogspot.com

The look I posted was the very first time playing with the palette.  I am still learning how to put on enough makeup to stand out on camera so it doesn't look so natural looking.  Still working on it.  The shadows are very opaque with not much fall out.
I do have a few criticisms on the palette though.  I wish it offered two light colors one matte and one shimmer for the brow bone. Though I like the gold and copper they are a little bit too similar when I try to blend them together.  I can already tell what colors I am going to use the most so I am really trying to learn to create looks of shades that I don’t normally gravitate to.

Other than that I highly recommend this palette especially to those who are still learning.  ItsJudyTime has been posting looks using her palette that is not only very helpful but inspiring to create your own.  The palette is currently going for 14.95 which is a 5% discount.  It limits you to one per customer and is going quickly.  Check it out (http://www.bhcosmetics.com/judy )

Ipsy Review and Ipsy Bag for December

Ipsy, have you "blogreadies" (blog readers who are beauties) heard of this?  Ipsy is a beauty product subscription box.  It was founded by Michelle Phan and other YouTube beauty gurus in 2011.
For 10 dollars a month,  Ipsy will send you 5-6 slightly personalized full to sample sized products from skin care, makeup and tools in the mail.  I signed up in 2011 when the company was still called MyGlam.  I have signed up for a year subscription and currenly going to sign up for the next one.
I know,  Show me the Products!
Its always going to be a toss up on quality of products.  Through the years I have noticed that ipsy uses brands that can only be found online.  Some have been good.  yet there will be atleast one or two products from well known brands like Urban Decay and NYX.  Ipsy is definitely worth the 10 buck price tag.  You can get a full sized product whose pricetage surpasses the whole bag.

For november I got this cute nail polish (tinibeauty.com) in my bag and I went onto the website and discovered that same bottle was 13 dollars. yea great deal. I know that there are alot of beauty subscription sites. ( i.e. birchbox, qvc beauty tube),  but they are expensive and usually you won't always get a makeup products. With Ipsy you will get makeup.   If you check it out,  (ipsy.com) you will be advised to take a beauty quiz.  I suggested go all out on your choices.  Why?  You will get more makeup products!

In August one of the products a member could get was the new deluxe sample of Urban Decay revolution lipstick -  Argh I was so bummed that I didn't get it.  I got a unknown chapstick instead.  So I went online to the site and retook the beauty quiz marked more adventourous makeup choices compared to the natural look.  Also forgot to mention that Ipsy provides descent discount codes for the products they feature in their bag. Honestly i don't like 100% of the products.  I save the unopened products for my friends and give them out as thinking of you gifts or holidays presents.  Yet Ipsy has opened my eyes to online makeup companies that I have continued to order from.

So Ipsy get double sets of thumbs up from me.  I will remain a loyal member and it gives me something to look forward to every month.  Ipsy has become so popular within the year thanks to the YouTube Beauty Gurus featuring the products on their pages.  You will need to sign up for the waitlist now it hopes to get picked up for the next month.  So I wish you luck  "blogreadies" (blog readers who are beauties) and I wouldn't mind trading products with you.

EmCosmetics Haul

Did you "blogreaties" take advantage of the discount deal on EmCosmetics? (emcosmetics.com)  I took full advantage, spend 100 get 50 off.  Yes,  Tis the season everyone has made deals on makeup.

EmCosmetics is the brain brand of YouTube Beauty Guru, Michelle Phan.  The makeup line is manufactured by L'Oreal and the reviews from the community are split.  I have to admit there are some gems of the line but continue reading and form your thoughts before I type mine.

I picked up multiple things from eyeliners, lipsticks, concealer and the iconic "Life Palette"  I bought the life palette when EmCosmetics first came out in April? (I have to check that.)  I was surprised that I received it before the beauty gurus reviewed it.  Michelle Phan has a great heart and is extremely creative so I didn't hesitate to purchase when her makeup came out.

I love the lipsticks and eyeliners.  The lipsticks regardless the name are so pigmented with highly pleasing shades that can be worn by so many people.  The formula is not sticky even their "matte" formula is not drying at all.  I would definitely recommend them.

EmCosmetics eyeliners are fabulous and I like these eyeliners better than the Too Faced Perfect Eyes Eyeliner.  Both are very creamy and can be easily smudged for a smokey effect.  Yet the Em liners beat out the too faced in staying power.  Love love love!  These are perfect in the waterline and as a upper and lower liner.

Next is the "Great Cover up" ultimate concealor.  michelle Phan uses this in most of her videos to conceal her undereyes and blemishes.  I got the concealer in Medium Warm and it is very orange.  I suppose it will work for undereye circles but I realized that I must use this stuff sparingly or i will turn into a ompa loompa.

Below is the "Life Palette" in Day.  The palette is the most neutral palette that i thought would benefit me the most.  Color payout? 50/50  The concept was great, the execution and quality needs to go back to the labs.    I would avoid the "Life Palette"  especially with a pricetag of a whopping 79 dollars.  Yikes.  Whoa stay tuned for my Perfect Palette Tag because this will be the one I regret.
